Spirit of Grays Harbor

"Spirit of Grays Harbor" is a brief documentary featuring original music that delves into the history of Grays Harbor.

Cathryn S Davis is an acclaimed film composer with a career in the arts spanning over twenty years. Known for her melody-driven storytelling, her compositions leave a lasting impact on listeners. Her passion for composing began in her youth when she created music for her seventh-grade talent show. Over time, she has refined her craft and is now esteemed as a composer with unique stories, depth, and texture in her works.

Her artistic background is vast, encompassing acting, musical theatre, photography, and film production before she ultimately returned to her passion for composition. After years in Los Angeles pursuing acting, singing, and modeling, she worked for Vidal Sassoon and soon transitioned to a Hawaiian advertising agency producing commercials, as well as a video production company creating short films. Her enthusiasm for post-production led her to collaborate with composers, eventually inspiring her to become a film composer.

Cathryn earned her BFA in Music/Theatre from Texas Christian University but only began studying composition in 2016 when she received a scholarship for a specialized contemporary music program focusing on film scoring, composition, orchestration, and songwriting at McNally Smith College of Music in Saint Paul, Minnesota.

From 2023 to 2025, Cathryn served as Composer in Residence for The Grays Harbor Symphony and College in Washington state. Recently, she has achieved several significant milestones in her career. In 2017, she composed, edited, and produced the video "Save Our Souls," which premiered at McNally Smith School of Music for solo, choir, children's duet, and orchestra. In 2018, she secured 2nd place in the Rachel Moore Choral Competition with "The Dance of the Fairies." In 2019, Cathryn was among five composers chosen from a national competition to collaborate with five lyricists at the prestigious Nautilus Music Theatre Workshop. Her first film score, "Destined for Collision," was performed live by an orchestra at the Minnesota Kino Film Score Festival. In 2020, she won an orchestral competition to have "II. THE SACRAL CHAKRA" recorded by The Northern Film Orchestra in Manchester, England.

In June, Cathryn debuted a distinctive and entertaining historical film commissioned by the Grays Harbor Symphony and College, which she wrote, directed, produced, and scored. It premiered live with an orchestra and is set to be showcased at film festivals soon. She is currently working on a musical addressing a common issue among women of all ages, shapes, sizes, races, and colors, along with other commissioned projects. She now resides in Olympia, Washington.
