The Rip with Ben Affleck and Matt Damon

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon have negotiated a deal with Netflix to implement their Artists Equity performance-based bonus system for the 1,200 crew members of their film “The Rip,” deviating from the streamer's usual payment model.

This agreement, facilitated through their production company Artists Equity, will offer eligible bonuses to everyone involved in the production if the film achieves certain performance benchmarks. Typically, the streamer pays the cast and crew upfront.

“We wanted to promote fairness and address some of the pressing issues in our industry,” Affleck stated to The New York Times in an interview published Friday. “This deal is central, philosophically, to the concepts we had when establishing this company.”

“The Rip” will be assessed over its initial 90 days on the platform and compared to other titles. “Everyone involved in this movie, from top to bottom, or who worked on the crew, will receive bonuses based on metrics we’ve predefined and shared with us,” Affleck mentioned.

The official synopsis for “The Rip” is as follows: “Upon discovering millions in cash in an abandoned stash house, trust among a team of Miami cops begins to unravel. As external forces learn about the size of the seizure, everything is questioned — including who they can trust.” Affleck and Damon portray two of the officers.

“The Rip” was written and directed by Joe Carnahan, known for “Narc,” “The Grey,” “Boss Level,” and “Shadow Force.”

Founded by Affleck and Damon in 2022, Artists Equity is an artist-led studio aimed at empowering filmmakers' creative visions through entrepreneurial collaborations.

“The Rip” will premiere on Netflix on Jan. 16.
